Abstract

Electrospinning is a versatile technique for generating continuous fibers with diameters down to a few nanometers [1]. It has been a simple method of fabricating fibular mesostructured with the large specific surface area and porous structure. Therefore, the electrospun nanofiber materials have been successfully used as a transducer platform for a variety of sensors applications [2] with largely improved sensitivity. Besides, some researchers tried to carry out the high temperature conbonization under inert atmosphere to transform the matrix polymer in the electrospun film into carbon fiber for electrochemical application [3].

Functional organic silica is a kind of typical electrode modification material for the amino or thiol functional group in the organic chain for enzyme graft or for the heavy metals accumulation due to the 3D porous structure of its corresponding gel film [4]. The marriage of electrospining with the sol-gel processing of organic silica provides a way to fabricate one dimensional nanostructure with tailorable morphologies, size and composition [5].

In this paper, a novel porous thiolated organosilica fiber was fabricated by electrospinning technique with the polymer polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP) as a matrix polymer and (3-Mercaptopropyl)-trimethoxysilane (MPTS,95%) as the single silica source. With Au electrode as the collecting substrate, the stable organosilica fiber film modified Au electrode was obtained due to the formation of Au-S covalent bond. After the ethnol washing process, the surface morphology changed and formed 3D porous structure, this as-obtained electrode was applied successfully to the detection of hydrazine. The detection limit is about 0.1μM by the DPV technique with the signal to noise ratio higher than 3. Shown in Fig.1 is the SEM image of the porous thiolated organosilica fiber. Fig.2 is the DPV curves of different concentrations of hydrazine at AuNPs-MPTS/Au.
