Abstract

Graphene as a new carbon material with unique structure and excellent physicochemical properties has shown great application potential in electrochemical energy storage devices. This presentation will introduce progress on graphene applications in Li-ion batteries achieved recently in our group. Based on excellent electrical conductivity and two dimensional nanostructure of graphene, graphene sheets can be used as conductive additives to enormously reduce the internal resistance of the batteries and increase the compact density of the electrode, result in enhanced energy density, better rate capability and cyclic stability. Using graphene coated Al foil as the current collector can effectively reduce the contact resistance between active materials and the current collector, and also increase their adhesion force, giving rise to excellent high-rate performance and longer cycle life of the battery. Our research evidently shows that graphene can play important roles in high-performance Li-ion batteries.
