Abstract

For future applications in large-scale stationary energy storage and electric drive vehicles, Li-ion batteries require not only high energy density, but also long cycling life, fast charge/discharge rate, and ensured safety. Therefore, an increasing research interest have been focused on the development of stable electrode material systems that can be charged and discharged at high speed without damage their electrochemical performance. One widely accepted strategy to improve the cycling rate is to manipulate electrode materials with one-dimensional (1D) nanoarchitecture since it can efficiently promote fast Li-ion pathways along the 1D structures for Li-ion transport and electronic conduction. Herein we report the facile synthesis and stable cycling of Fe2O3 nanofibers for Li-ion battery electrode applications. The fibers have an average diameter of only 20 nm and length of more than 100 um, which results in high charge rate and high capacity of the electrodes.
