Is it possible to obtain base-metals/noble-metals core/shell nanoparticles as catalysts for fuel cells via galvanic replacement reaction?

Abstract
We have investigated the galvanic replacement reactions happening between AuNiFe NPs and PtCl42- ions with participation of carbon supports, and propose for the first time that it is impossible to obtain base-metals/noble-metals core/shell NPs on electron conductive supports as catalysts for fuel cells via galvanic replacement reactions. However we can obtain fine and uniformly dispersed noble metal NPs an electron conductive supports, such as carbon powders via base-metal anodic sacrifice. electron conductive supports, such as carbon powders via base-metal anodic sacrifice. reduction reaction in comparison with the commercial Pt/C.
