Abstract

In this paper, .three anti-swelling technologies, including nano-composite technology, chemically crosslinked technology and semi-interpenetrating polymer network technology, are employed to improve performances of the sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) (SPEEK) membrane with an ion-exchange capacity of 1.93mmol/g. Water uptake, swelling ratio, mechanical property, oxidative stability and proton conductivity of modified SPEEK membranes are measured. The durability of the semi-interpenetrating SPEEK/10%PVA network and crosslinked SPEEK/5%PVA membrane is increased more than 100%, while the proton conductivity of them is comparable to that of the pure SPEEK membrane.
