Electrochemical Devices Applications in China Energy System
Last modified: 2014-10-11
Abstract
Fossil fuel is still the most important energy resource in the world. In China, nearly 50% coal is being consumed to generate nearly 70% of the electricity. By the traditional technologies in coal power plant, the efficiencies of coal are very low, and the environmental impacts are also serious. It’s urgent to find the disruptive technologies in the energy systems. Now, the new high temperature electrochemical device, such as Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs), Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cells (SOECs) and Oxygen Transport Membranes (OTMs), are developing quickly. All of them will be introduced and play more and more important roles in the coal-based energy system in the near future. The next new energy strategy based on electrochemical technologies and devices will be put forward and discussed in the paper.
