Cathode catalysts and process for rechargeable Li-air batteries

Abstract


Rechargeable lithium air batteries (Li-air batteries) have been considered one of the most attractive energy storage and conversion devices due to their extremely high energy density [1-3]. Although great progress and advancement have been achieved in recent years, Li-air technology is still remained at an early stage of development at this moment. It has been identified that air cathode is a vital factor influencing the performance of Li-air battery and the low-performing cathode is the major challenge hindering the commercial application of Li-air batteries [4], though the lithium anode [5], operating atmosphere [6], binder [7], electrolyte including the solvent [8] and lithium salt [9] affects the battery performance as well. In this presentation, the development of several novel cathode catalysts, such as double perovskite oxide and nickel pyrite, and the comparative optimization of cathode process conducted in SJTU will be introduced.
