Abstract

CoRu catalyst supported on poly (sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) coated graphite nanoplatelets (CoRu/PSS-GNs) was successfully prepared and used for hydrogen generation from sodium borohydride in alkine solution. The properties and morphologies of PSS-GNs supports and CoRu/PSS-GNs catalyst were characterized by SEM-EDS, XRD, FT-IR and TGA, which shows the PSS-GNs posses -SO3Na organic functional groups and CoRu can be effectively load (20.0 wt%). The maximum rate of hydrogen evolution could reach to 4427.3 mL·min-1·g-1cat in NaBH4 (200mM, containing 0.2wt% NaOH) solution. In comparison to the CoRu/GNs and CoRu/GTO catalysts, the catalytic efficiency of CoRu/PSS-GNs catalyst is almost three times high than them. The Ea value of CoRu/PSS-GNs is 50.03 kJ·mol-1, besides a very good dispersion in aqueous solution, which can be placed for several mouths without precipitation. It is suitable in practical application for CoRu/PSS-GNs catalyst according to its smaller activation energy and good hydrophilicity.
