Abstract
Two dimensional (2D) layered nickel oxide coated reduced graphene oxide (NiO/RGO) composites were prepared by hydrothermal synthesis of aqueous mixture of graphite oxide, methanol and nickel nitrate followed with microwave irradiation treatment. The influence of reaction temperature, pressure and raw materials content on the morphology, structure, and yield of the product were investigated. X-ray diffraction analysis, field emission scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy results showed that the 2D layered NiO/RGO composites composites were successfully synthesized and the reduced graphene oxide plates were fully covered by nickel oxide nanoparticles (size: ~20 nm). The as-prepared 2D layered NiO/RGO composites composites were used as supercapacitor electrodes. Cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and galvanostatic charge/discharge methods were employed to study the electrochemical properties of the 2D layered NiO/RGO composites. 2D layered NiO/RGO composites composites exhibit good electrochemical performance and excellent long-term cycling stability.
